  “Hear, hear!”

  “And to Thom T. Taggart.”

Rand raised his glass. “Without Great-grandpa’s meddling, Maxi and I would never have found each other.”

“Amen to that.” Maxi kissed his cheek and cuddled against him. It was so wonderful to belong to someone, really belong.

  “To Thom T.”

  “To Thom T.!”

Off to one side, Clementine sighed. Rand’s sister was staring at her champagne flute as if counting bubbles.

Rand heard her mutter, “Thanks for nothing, Great-grandpa. Without you around to help me, I’ll probably be the first Taggart in history to end up an old maid.”

“No, you won’t.” Holding Rand’s hand, Maxi slipped her free arm around her sister-in-law’s waist, speaking with certainty. “When the right time comes for you, I just have to believe Thom T. will have that covered somehow.”

“Absolutely,” Rand agreed. “Look what he did for us—got us hitched and turned me into a rancher all at the same time. He’ll do the same for you, Clemmie, someday, somehow.”

“Someday, somehow,” Maxi echoed, filled with wonder. Not only hitched but happily hitched! Who’d have thought it?

Dead or alive, Thom T. really could work miracles, and nobody would ever be able to convince her otherwise.
